About Pinewood:

Pinewood school was opened in September of 1976 in response to a growing population. The population of the school was diverse in economic, ethnicity, and culture. The staff and students were enthusiastically supported by a strong and involved parent group.  Forty five years later, this steadfast and committed culture and climate remains.

Student varied backgrounds make Pinewood a culturally rich environment. We are located in a beautiful neighborhood with 16km's of nature trails in our back yard. With roughly 33% of our student population being Aboriginal, the relevance of Aboriginal history and perspective is of importance to all students. We take pride in providing a wide range of experiences for our students. Staff, regardless of the grades they teach, have an active role with all students. This is demonstrated through coaching a variety of sports, running leadership activities, and supervising school events. We take a true team approach to supporting students within our school and each other.

Pinewood staff are active learners, utilizing collaboration discussions, professional development opportunities, and being accountable to one another. As such, they have high expectations for students both academically and socially. Our team consists of eight classroom teachers, as well as three non-enrolling teachers, an Aboriginal Education worker, seven Education Assistants, a Youth Care Worker, an administrative assistant and one awesome administrator.

Our Parent Advisory Committee is active and supportive. From hot lunches and tasty treats to classroom specifics, our parents help foster our climate of the Mighty Moose.
